Safety comes first, and it is yours

Every formula on this site uses sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. Both are caustic. They will burn skin, and they will blind an eye. Lye solution is clear and looks like water.

• Wear chemical splash goggles and gloves at every step, and never work without ventilation.
• Always add lye to water, never water to lye. The mixture gets very hot, very fast.
• Keep children and animals out of the work area, and keep the mixing vessel out of reach between steps.
• Do not use aluminium or unlined metal vessels with lye.
• If lye touches skin, flush with cool running water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical help. For eyes, flush and get to a hospital immediately.
• Soap is not food and not medicine. Keep it away from the kitchen and never let it near a mouth.

No warranty of any kind

The formulas, techniques and figures here are published for information. They are used entirely at your own risk. We give no warranty that a recipe will trace, set, unmould, cut or cure as described, and no warranty that any figure is free of error.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any injury, loss, damage to property or spoiled materials arising from the use of, or reliance on, anything published here. This includes burns from lye, failed batches, damaged equipment, discoloured or rancid soap, and reactions to fragrance or essential oils.

Not medical advice

Nothing here is medical, dermatological or veterinary advice. Statements about how an oil feels on skin are descriptive. If you have a skin condition, ask a clinician before using any handmade soap on it.

Intellectual property

The text, the figures and the code of this site belong to Snowglobe Suds. You may print or save pages for your own bench use. You may not republish entries in bulk, resell them, or feed them into a commercial content product without written permission. Contact [email protected] for anything beyond personal use.
